Montpelier says annexation tied to mayor's property could return for a vote

Montpelier may bring back a voluntary annexation involving Brad Neff's property and a neighboring property after Neff said the city attorney found no conflict of interest.

During Tuesday's discussion, Neff said the attorney checked with the State Board of Accounts and advised that the matter could move forward. Council members then tried to sort out how many buildings and dwellings were involved, with the exchange landing on four buildings and six dwellings after a confusing back-and-forth.

Neff argued the annexation would help the city because the properties already receive city water and sewer service. He also said the neighboring homeowner agreed annexation made sense.

No action was taken because the council lacked a quorum, but Neff indicated the matter could return on the next agenda when enough members are present to vote.
