Montpelier Opens Public Hearing on a $3.57 Million 2027 Budget
From the Montpelier Common Council meeting on October 12, 2026
Montpelier opened its first required public hearing on the 2027 budget Monday, putting a proposed total of $3,568,553 on the record after last month's no-quorum meeting delayed the process.
During the hearing, town officials read several proposed fund amounts, including $137,571 for debt service, $15,000 for local road and street, $104,030 for motor vehicle highway, $30,000 for capital development, $185,000 for redevelopment general, $161,250 for CEDIT, and $15,000 for riverboat.
The hearing did not end with final adoption. The transcript for part of the reading is garbled, including at least one large fund line and a smaller general-fund figure, so the detailed fund list in the meeting record is incomplete. The clear figure from the hearing was the overall proposed budget total of $3,568,553.
This was the council's first formal public-budget step since its Sept. 15 meeting stalled for lack of a quorum.
