Montpelier: Experienced Police Candidate Gets More Time on Agility Test
From the Montpelier Board of Works meeting on June 9, 2026
Chief Snider reported that a police candidate with prior law enforcement experience failed the physical agility test but was "fairly close" to passing. With the mayor's approval, the candidate is being given an additional two to three weeks to improve fitness and retry.
Other applications have come in, but none from candidates with experience. Snider praised current staff for picking up extra shifts despite being short-staffed. He also noted a new officer has been seen around town in a positive light — playing football with kids and walking neighborhoods.
The board expressed no objection to extending the agility test timeline.
