Montpelier discusses more housing grant money as seven homes are selected

Montpelier discussed two housing-aid efforts Tuesday, weighing whether to advertise up to $25,000 in local support for a county rehabilitation grant while also announcing that seven homeowners had been selected under the city's housing preservation program.

In the county-level discussion, a consultant told council Montpelier could be listed in the public notice at up to $25,000 without locking itself into that figure later. The speaker said the grant application would not be filed until Nov. 2 and that a public hearing would first be held at an October meeting of the Blackford County Commissioners. Because the council lost its quorum, no formal vote appears in the transcript.

Later in the meeting, Brad Neff said the city had chosen seven winners from 15 applications under Montpelier's housing preservation grant and that contact with those homeowners would begin this week. A consultant added that another request for funding had also been submitted, and Neff said the total number of homes could rise to 11 or 12 if county money comes through.
