From the Blackford County Commissioners meeting on October 19, 2026

Blackford County commissioners approved a Montpelier apartment property's change from R1 to R3 zoning with two favorable votes and one abstention.

Planning staff described a longstanding house converted to apartments. A financing application had brought the mismatch between its use and zoning to attention. The planning commission had recommended approval October 6, as the Ledger previously reported.

The abstaining commissioner disclosed a family relationship to the owner. Whether Montpelier must take an additional approval step remained unclear.
