$70,000 Federal Grant Could Fund Free Home Repairs for Low-Income Montpelier Residents

From the Montpelier Redevelopment Commission meeting on May 11, 2026

Montpelier is pursuing a $70,000 housing preservation grant through USDA Rural Development that would fund free home repairs for qualifying low-income residents. Project architect Dave Keyser announced the program at the Redevelopment Commission meeting, saying his team is meeting this week to finalize the application form.

The grant is 100% federally funded with no local match required. Eligible repairs include new roofs, windows, and siding. Residents can use their own contractors, though there are federal compliance requirements to follow.

The city plans to apply for this grant annually. Residents who qualify but do not receive funding this round will be placed on a list for a 2027 application cycle.

Council members indicated they already know residents who are interested, and the mayor encouraged spreading the word.
