Hartford City has received two new electric pickup trucks through a U.S. Department of Energy grant, the city announced Wednesday on social media.
The city said the grant was fully funded and covered the two 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EVs at no cost to the city.
According to the post, the trucks will replace two city trucks from 1995 and 1999. The city estimated the older trucks got about 7 to 9 miles per gallon.
The city said the grant also covers an electric John Deere Gator for the Parks Department. Charging stations for the vehicles were also provided through the grant, according to the announcement.
City officials said the new vehicles will save money on fuel, repairs, and replacement costs. The post did not include a dollar estimate of those savings.
The announcement did not name the specific Department of Energy grant program or list the total value of the award. It also did not specifically say which city departments will use the two trucks.
