Hartford City Replaces About 500 Water Meters After Read Failures
From the Hartford City Common Council meeting on October 5, 2026
Hartford City approved an invoice Monday tied to replacing about 500 older water meters that were not being read properly.
Dan Eckstein said the replacements are part of the city's newer meter software and leak-detection system. In June, the council approved a $43,000 automated water meter system meant to move the city away from drive-by readings. Monday's action advanced the next piece of that work, though the meeting did not clearly state the invoice amount or vendor.
Eckstein later told the council the system had already helped city staff spot leaks early in the month and notify about 20 customers. That links the meter replacement work to a practical goal: more accurate billing and earlier notice when a home's water use suddenly jumps.
The council approved the invoice on a 4-0 vote.
