Hartford City Redevelopment Commission Advances Newberry Insurance, Scan Bills
From the Hartford City Redevelopment Commission meeting on September 17, 2026
The Hartford City Redevelopment Commission took two money actions tied to the Newberry Building on Sept. 17, delaying full payment of a $30,423 insurance renewal while approving $11,904.15 in architecture-related bills.
During the insurance discussion, Dana Whatley said the Cincinnati Insurance renewal quote carried a $5,000 deductible. Board members said insurance agent Angela Smith advised that about $500 in cyber coverage could be removed and that the building was due to be re-rated now that it is occupied. The commission voted 4-0 to let Whatley work with Smith on a partial payment and the next steps instead of paying the full annual premium right away.
The board then voted 4-0 to pay two Halstead Architects invoices for the building: $54.15 for permits and $11,850 for a full-building 3D laser scan. Members said the scan produced a three-dimensional drawing of the structure. One member asked whether the work had already been approved months earlier, but the commission approved payment again to be safe.
