Hartford City's Property Standards Board approved new teardown orders for two properties at its August 12 meeting, starting the 60-day notice process for each.
805 West Barber Street — owned by James Blumenhorst — received an emergency teardown posting on July 29, which was published in the newspaper. Blumenhorst did not appear at the hearing. City Attorney Tyler Rotstein checked court records during the meeting and found no estate filed for Blumenhorst. His wife, Dolores, died in 2018. The city has been mowing the property for all of 2026 and most of 2025, and no lights have been observed in the home. Tax bills are sent to the property address. The board voted 3-0 to approve the teardown order, with a court filing calendared for October 12.
625 Greenbrier Drive was presented by Ordinance Control Officer Dennis Maddox, who described it as the "same situation — needs to come down." The property is owned by the same party who owns Lot 13 Greenbrier Drive. The board voted 3-0 to approve the teardown order. Notices will be sent and recorded, with a court filing calendared for October 12.
