Hartford City: Property Owner Converts Rehab Order to Teardown, Plans New House at 222 East Elm
From the Hartford City Property Standards Board meeting on June 10, 2026
The Property Standards Board voted 3-0 to convert a prior rehab order to a teardown order at 222 East Elm Street. The owner, Mr. Gooden, appeared at the March meeting with a rehabilitation plan and was given 90 days. He returned June 10 reporting that foundation issues make rehab cost-prohibitive.
Mr. Gooden now plans to tear down the existing structure and build a new 1,000-square-foot house on the lot. He has house drawings completed and is meeting with contractors. He reported that neighbors support the plan.
The board tabled the case for 120 days — until the October meeting — to allow time for demolition and new construction to begin. Ordinance Control Officer Dennis Maddox noted the owner has been good about staying in communication.
