Hartford City Police Add Real-Time Officer Tracking to Body and Car Cameras

The Board of Public Works & Safety approved 3-0 two Axon contract amendments that add real-time location tracking to the Hartford City Police Department's body camera and in-car camera systems.

A police lieutenant presented the "Respond Public" program, which shows real-time officer locations whenever cameras are recording or patrol cars are turned on. Supervisors can monitor active incidents — such as pursuits or physical confrontations — and deploy additional resources based on live information.

The department has already tested the system during a live pursuit. Supervisors were able to see the pursuit in real time and make informed decisions about intervention.

One contract amendment costs $6,457.50 for 41 months, approximately $157 per month. The cost of the second amendment was not clearly stated. Both are amendments to existing Axon contracts rather than new standalone agreements. The police department was authorized to sign the contracts.
