Hartford City People's Marketplace Reports $750 Weekly Sales, Vendors Seek Extended Season
From the Hartford City Redevelopment Commission meeting on May 14, 2026
The People's Marketplace, which operates inside the Newberry Building, is generating $750 per week in gross sales with 30 vendors, including three food-based vendors, according to a progress report given to the Redevelopment Commission.
Food vendors are the primary draw, bringing in customers who then browse other vendors' offerings. The marketplace benefits from foot traffic generated by Obi's restaurant, though that traffic does not flow as strongly in the other direction.
Vendors have requested an extension of the current season through July, August, and September. The commission took the request under advisement but was not ready to discuss it.
