Hartford City's Board of Works tied the city's earlier $25,000 housing-rehab commitment Monday to a larger county-led grant application for $500,000.

Board members first approved claims after a brief question about a 71-cent payroll-tax balancing item. The total value of those claims was not stated during the discussion.

Later, Cheri Brown, Hartford City Community Development Director, updated the board on the owner-occupied rehab effort. She said the joint application would seek $500,000 and use a local match of about $125,000. The breakdown discussed in the meeting was $25,000 from Hartford City, $25,000 from Montpelier, $50,000 from Blackford County, and $25,000 from economic development.

The board did not appear to take a new funding vote. Instead, the discussion clarified that Hartford City's earlier $25,000 approval was its share of the wider county application.
