Hartford City: 411 East Commercial Gets 60-Day Reprieve

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Hartford City Property Standards Board meeting on June 10, 2026

Wanda Eley appeared before the Property Standards Board regarding 411 East Commercial Street, a property with boarded-up windows, downed gutters, and heavy brush covering the front. Eley explained her father has Alzheimer's, she works 12-hour third shifts, and she has had limited time to address the property.

She was accompanied by Eric, a real estate investor from Muncie interested in potentially buying the house. Eric said they could clear brush and put on a new roof within the compliance period.

The board tabled the case to August — 60 days — with Ordinance Control Officer Dennis Maddox authorized to inspect the interior with the owner's consent once brush is cleared. Board member Kingery stated he would not support the property being used solely as storage long-term.
