Dunkirk approved a beautification committee project Oct. 26 to install five directional signs pointing people toward local destinations.

Connie Ritter said the Dunkirk Foundation wanted to fund the effort. The signs would direct people to destinations including the library and swimming pool, along with the community center.

Proposed locations included West Jay, Mount Auburn, Lincoln Avenue, Washington Street and the park drive on Highland Avenue.

Ritter said she had contacted the company that made Albany's signs. She described Tipton's signs as a model the committee liked. The council gave the committee permission to proceed.
