Early Voting Open for Dunkirk Voters Ahead of May 5 Primary

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

Dunkirk voters can now cast early ballots for Indiana's May 5 primary election at the Blackford County Clerk's office in Hartford City.

There are no Dunkirk municipal races on the ballot this year. Indiana holds municipal elections in odd-numbered years, with the next round in 2027. However, Dunkirk residents will vote on county and state races.

The only contested local primary race is for Blackford County Commissioner District 2, where incumbent Laura Coons faces challengers Eddie Cansler and Shane Smith in the Republican primary. Other county offices on the ballot are uncontested in the primary, including assessor Sheila Hyer, auditor Lisa Flint Simmons, sheriff Jim Heflin, and county council members Jeff Whetzel (District 1) and Heather Scaggs.

State Representative J.D. Prescott is running uncontested in the Republican primary. Dunkirk is in Indiana's 5th Congressional District, where voters will also choose nominees for U.S. House.
