Dunkirk Water Tower Out of Service for Two Weeks Starting July 15

From the City of Dunkirk Board of Works and City of Dunkirk City Council meetings on July 13, 2026

Dunkirk's water tower will be emptied starting Wednesday, July 15, for a full exterior repainting. Power washing begins Thursday, and the project is expected to take approximately two weeks. The tower will be repainted white and green, matching current colors. The interior will not be painted. The work is part of the city's existing maintenance contract.

During this period, the city will activate pop-off and blow-off valves on every dead-end water line across town to manage water pressure and prevent damage to mains and residential plumbing. Residents will see water spraying from hydrants — this is planned and expected.

The city plans to notify residents via Facebook, the city message board, and local radio.
