Dunkirk Wastewater Violations Include Newly Listed Chloride Exceedance
EPA compliance record checked October 25, 2026
Dunkirk's wastewater treatment plant remained in the EPA's Significant/Category I Noncompliance category in an Oct. 25 record check that included a newly listed chloride exceedance for the quarter starting July 1, 2026.
That is the EPA's most serious compliance category for sewer permits. The federal summary lists 12 straight quarters of significant noncompliance over the last three years, with all 12 quarters out of compliance. The current quarter, which began July 1 and is still open in the record, is listed so far as "Violation Identified."
For the quarter beginning July 1, the record lists monthly chloride values 78% over the permit limit and non-monthly chloride values 8% over. It also lists monthly phosphorus values 2% over the limit and non-monthly suspended-solids values 28% over.
The three-year record includes repeated chloride exceedances, along with exceedances involving ammonia, phosphorus and suspended solids. It lists eight informal actions, no formal actions and $0 in penalties.
EPA data can lag corrective work. The federal listing does not necessarily reflect a fix made after the period covered by its data.
