Dunkirk Pickleball Court Construction Begins; Lighting Quotes Range from $2,900 to $12,980
From the Dunkirk City Council meeting on April 13, 2026
Construction on Dunkirk's pickleball courts has started, and a locate for fence installation has been submitted, according to both the April 13 council and Board of Works minutes.
The lighting component of the project produced a striking price gap. Council member Donna Revolt presented two quotes at the February Park Board meeting: McCammon Bros Construction at $2,900 and Coppersmith Electric LLC at $12,980 — a 4.5-times difference for the same job. Revolt also reported applying for a grant to help cover lighting costs.
The minutes do not indicate which quote was selected or whether the grant was awarded. The total project cost — including construction, fencing, and lighting — has not been publicly stated.
Mayor Robbins noted at the February Park Board meeting that pickleball games would begin at the West Jay Community Center at the end of March, suggesting community demand is driving the investment.
