The Portland Foundation has $750,000 available for re-granting to nonprofit organizations in Jay County through the Lilly Endowment's Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative, now in its ninth phase. The $750,000 corresponds to the smallest-county tier of GIFT IX matching grants, which range from $750,000 to $15 million based on county population.
The board's top priority is renovating the existing bathrooms at the park, with a secondary project of installing new bathrooms at a separate park location. Board members also suggested scoreboards and field leveling as alternative projects, but bathrooms were selected as the primary need. The board chair will draft the grant application and email it to all members for review before the deadline.
Dunkirk sits near the Jay/Blackford county line and participates in some Jay County organizations. The Portland Foundation maintains specific Dunkirk Community Funds, confirming the city's eligibility for Portland Foundation grants.
