The Dunkirk Park Board addressed several pool and parks items at its July 22 meeting, approving a $7,600 pool pump purchase and confirming the blue pool slide will be out of commission for the rest of the 2026 season.

Pool Pump: The board approved a motion to purchase a new pool pump for $7,600, with funds coming from the building budget category.

Blue Slide Closure: The blue pool slide has broken and no replacement parts are available. The slide will remain closed for the remainder of the pool season, which runs through approximately August 9.

Lifeguard Pay: The board discussed the need for a $2-3 per hour pay increase for pool staff to attract younger lifeguards. Current rates are $11.19 per hour for lifeguards, $12.73 for the pool manager, $11.53 for assistants, and $10.48 for concession and slide attendants. Board member Nate was tasked with researching comparable pay rates at other cities and reporting back. Any increase would go into the 2027 budget and require City Council approval.

Pickleball Court: Lighting installation for the new pickleball court is scheduled for the last week of July. A utility locate has been called, and signage has been ordered.

Trail Extension: The board discussed extending walking trails around the three small ball diamonds in the park, with a loop connecting behind the diamonds. Members expressed support for the idea.

The next Park Board meeting is August 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM.
