Dunkirk Launches 2027 Budget Process; First Reading Set for September 14

The clerk-treasurer distributed 2027 budget forms to all Dunkirk City Council members at the August 10 meeting, officially launching the city's annual budget process. All city departments have already submitted their budget requests.

Council members will review budgets with their assigned department supervisors over the coming weeks. The budget must be advertised before the first reading, scheduled for September 14. The second reading and expected passage are set for September 28. A special meeting may be called for additional budget discussion before the next regular council session.

The clerk-treasurer asked council members to "reach out to your supervisor, discuss the budget with them, and find out why they submitted the budget the way it is."

This is the first 2027 budget cycle as the city prepares for potential revenue impacts from SEA 1 (property tax reform) and awaits guidance from the August 26 county meeting on HEA 1001 and local income tax distribution. The new building permit fee fund and the pending trash contract decision will also affect 2027 projections.
