Dunkirk Grants Resident's Manufactured-Home Exception
From the Dunkirk Blackford County BZA meeting on October 13, 2026
Dunkirk's BZA approved resident's request for a special exception to place a 16-foot-by-66-foot manufactured home on her property in an R3 residential area.
The zoning administrator said the request had to go to the board because Dunkirk's ordinance requires a special exception for a manufactured or mobile home in that zoning district. He said the lot met the minimum size requirement of more than 5,000 square feet and that utilities were already available to the lot under discussion.
During the hearing, the resident said the request was tied to family caregiving needs after her husband's death and serious health problems in the household. The resident's father said her help could keep him from being sent back to rehab. The transcript does not show clear neighbor opposition.
After discussion, the board approved the request by voice vote, with the chair declaring the motion passed. The same exchange made clear that if the property or home were later sold in a different way than presented at the hearing, the matter would need to return to zoning officials.
