Dunkirk Fire Station Generator Fails — Warranty Replacement Coming at No Cost

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Dunkirk Board of Works meeting on May 11, 2026

The emergency generator at Dunkirk's fire station has failed. The generator, installed two to three years ago, is still under warranty. It is the third unit of this type to fail.

Jim Shoemaker, who installed the generator, is replacing it under warranty with a Briggs & Stratton unit at no cost to the city. No timeline was given for the replacement.

In the meantime, firefighters are using handheld radios and must manually open overhead doors to get trucks out of the station — a significant operational concern. The generator failure comes while the department's pumper truck is also out of service.
