Dunkirk Fire Pumper Repair Underway After 90 Days Out of Service — City Admits No Prior Truck Maintenance

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Dunkirk Board of Works meeting on July 13, 2026

Dunkirk's fire pumper, which has been out of service for 90 days, is being repaired and will be brought to the next Board of Works meeting. The city has no backup pumper.

The department is switching to Hoosier Fire for annual maintenance on all trucks. The contract would include valve checks and pressure testing. A price will be presented at the next meeting.

The mayor stated the city has never had maintenance on its fire trucks — a significant admission that explains how the pumper failure occurred. The new maintenance contract is intended to prevent future breakdowns.
