Dunkirk: Fire Pumper Out Nearly 8 Weeks, Generator Fixed

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Dunkirk Board of Works meeting on June 8, 2026, and the Dunkirk City Council meeting on June 8, 2026

Dunkirk's fire pumper truck remains out of service after approximately eight weeks. The mayor reported contacting the pump rebuilder, who "still got it" but "hadn't heard anything." It remains uncertain whether the pump can be rebuilt or whether the city will need to pursue other options.

In better news for the fire station, the generator has been fixed with a completely new unit covered under warranty. The city may need to split the cost of a battery with the county. The fire station roof replacement has also been completed.

The fire department's boot drive is scheduled for June 12.
