Dunkirk Approves Fence Removal to Open Access to Playground Equipment

From the Dunkirk Park Board meeting on April 22, 2026

The Dunkirk Park Board approved removing the fence surrounding playground equipment behind the West Jay Community Center after determining the equipment — geared toward children ages 3 to 5 — is currently inaccessible because no one can get inside the fence.

The board initially considered relocating the equipment to other park properties but determined this would be too costly and time-consuming because all equipment is set in concrete. Instead, the fence will be removed, the area cleaned up, and the play equipment opened for public access.
