The Dunkirk City Council approved a contract with East Central Contractors for up to $25,000 to camera approximately 7,000 feet of sewer lines on the southeast side of town. The goal is to locate where storm water is infiltrating sanitary sewer lines, which fill up during heavy rains.

The target area includes Washington Street to Willow on Broad Street, Broad to Main on Moore Avenue, Barber Street, and potentially further east. Many of the lines are old clay pipes. The sewer plant operator presented the request at both the Board of Works and Council meetings.

East Central Contractors will charge $1,100 per day for a jet truck and $1,850 per day for camera equipment, working 10-hour days. The contract is funded from the stormwater fee budget. The rate is cheaper than the previous contractor, who charged $1.29 per foot plus $275 per hour from Fort Wayne.
