Commissioners Approve Sheriff Commissary and Food Contracts

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

Blackford County commissioners approved two sheriff's department agreements on Sept. 8: an updated canteen or commissary contract and a separate food-service contract.

Sheriff Jim Heflin told commissioners the jail population was 71 inmates, including 54 men and 17 women. Vendor names and contract amounts were not stated at the meeting.

Even without those terms, the vote matters because jail food and commissary services are part of the county's daily operating costs and inmate services.
