Columbus Day Cancellation Leaves Dunkirk With One October Council Meeting

From the Dunkirk City Council meeting on September 28, 2026

Dunkirk canceled its Oct. 12 council meeting because the regular date falls on Columbus Day, leaving the city to handle regular October business at the later meeting that month.

Mayor Jack Robbins raised the holiday conflict during the Sept. 28 meeting. Clerk-Treasurer Kara Lowe said the city could likely get by with only the second meeting of the month.

Council then voted to cancel the Oct. 12 session. The brief did not identify any specific item that required a meeting before the later October date.

For residents, the change is simple but important. Anyone expecting regular council action on Oct. 12 will need to watch for the second October meeting instead.
