BZA Takes Partial Action on IU Health Sign Request
From the Blackford County Board of Zoning & Appeals meeting on 2026-09-15
The Blackford County Board of Zoning & Appeals took formal action Sept. 15 on a sign-replacement request tied to IU Health Blackford Hospital at 410 Pilgrim Boulevard, but the exact scope of the approval is unclear from the meeting transcript.
Applicant representative Kimberly Fogg, speaking for a sign contractor, said the project was presented as a replacement package rather than new signage. She said one monument sign would get updated center panels, a sign reading "medical office building" would be replaced with a building-mounted cabinet sign, and directional signs would also be replaced.
During the hearing, a staff or planning speaker said at least some of the smaller monument signs appeared to fall within ordinance distance limits near an intersection. That meant those signs would need a variance with public notice instead of being handled entirely through the special-exception request already before the board.
The board then moved through findings and a formal motion ending in language granting relief.
