Blackford County Schools Finances Tracking Within Budget Despite Seasonal Dip

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on April 21, 2026

Blackford County Schools' finances are tracking within expected ranges despite the Operations Fund sitting "technically below target thresholds," the superintendent reported in a monthly financial update to the board.

The dip is a normal seasonal pattern. Large cash disbursements arrive from county tax draws in June and December, while April spending spiked due to a three-month insurance payment cycle. The district's spending is within expected appropriation percentages — no more than 25% of the budget should be spent at this point in the year.

A monthly transfer of roughly $140,000 from the Education Fund to the Operations Fund continues. The district ended 2025 with a combined $168,000 overspend but maintained a record $1.2 million in the Operations Fund thanks to building consolidation savings. A $250,000-per-year local income tax revenue stream expires in 2029.
