Blackford County Schools Approves Emergency Use of Hartford City Garage
From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on September 15, 2026
Blackford County Schools approved an emergency-use agreement with Hartford City on Tuesday so the city garage can be used if Blackford Intermediate School ever has to be evacuated.
District administration told the board the district's prior arrangement with a nearby church would not hold the full student and staff population during a building-wide evacuation. School officials then reviewed the city garage with Dan Eckstein, Hartford City police leadership, and a city building or facility contact identified in the transcript as Mr. Thompson.
Administrators said the city garage would work as a temporary reunification site. That means students and staff could be moved there while families are contacted and pickup is organized after an emergency.
The board approved the memorandum of understanding by a 4-0 vote. No payment amount, reimbursement term, or other financial condition was stated in the transcript segment reviewed.
