Blackford County Highway Updates Tighten RWE Access and Start New Road Work
From the Blackford County Commissioners meeting on September 21, 2026
Blackford County's highway update put several road projects in motion at once, including a closure on County Road 500 East, the start of Lake Trout Solar paving work, and a tougher county stance on when companies can build road entrances.
The highway superintendent said County Road 500 East at 300 North had closed that day and was expected to stay closed until about Nov. 1 under a contract that includes possible late penalties. He also said Lake Trout Solar road upgrades were starting in Harrison Township on a U-shaped stretch involving 500 North, 400 East, and 400 North, with full closures during paving.
On RWE road access, the superintendent said he opposed allowing most driveways and entrances to start before road upgrades are finished. Vice President Dan Borgenheimer backed letting RWE begin only the short section serving its laydown yard while requiring upgrades first on the other roads.
Officials also agreed to seek a Local Technical Assistance Program traffic study for a possible three-way stop at Wabash, Park Avenue, and 100 North where the new trail connection crosses.
