Blackford County Approves $200,000 Purchase of Former Bank Building
From the Blackford County Commissioner meeting on May 18, 2026
The Blackford County Commissioners voted 3-0 to purchase the former First Financial bank building across from the courthouse for $200,000.
The county plans to relocate the prosecutor's office, economic development, community foundation, and other county offices out of the current annex building, which requires millions of dollars in repairs and is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Two independent appraisals valued the bank building above the purchase price.
The bank building already has handicap accessibility, office space, and an elevator. Architects have visited the site, and planning for the relocation is underway. Moving the prosecutor's office would also eliminate current rent payments the county makes for that space.
Commissioner Borgenheimer presented the purchase agreement in Warren Brown's absence.
Renovation costs, a timeline for occupancy, and the future of the annex building have not yet been determined.
