BCS Urgently Needs CDL Drivers for Fall Sports Season
From the Blackford County Schools Board Meeting on August 18, 2026
Blackford County Schools is short on bus drivers for extracurricular and athletic trips after losing two drivers who handled 35 to 40 percent of field trips last year.
All regular bus routes are covered, but the district needs CDL-licensed drivers specifically for after-school trips. The superintendent made a public appeal during the board meeting: "If you know anybody with a CDL... we'll pay them to watch the game."
In other staffing actions, the board approved two student technology positions as part of a tech restructuring plan. The district secured a Work and Learn grant from the state that reimburses 50 percent of salary for student workers who work between 10 and 20 hours per week.
