BCS Performing Arts Center Going Vertical as Masonry Work Begins

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on May 19, 2026

Construction on the Blackford County Schools performing arts center is going vertical, with masonry walls now rising on site, a construction representative told the board on Monday.

Pre-fabricated wall panels will be tilted up in June, forming the building's shape quickly. The stage wall has been poured, auditorium risers are expected within two weeks, and dressing rooms are under construction on the south side. Concrete slab and steel work continues.

Summer work inside the existing school building begins in one to two weeks, including fire suppression lines and mechanical piping. Weather has been cooperative, though some overtime and weekend work has been required.

The critical milestone: the building must be "dried in" by the end of summer. That timeline controls when interior finish work can begin, which the construction team called "the hard part of this project."
