Blackford County Schools board approved a 3-0 vote Monday to replace the kitchen vent hood in the junior/senior high school main prep kitchen at a cost of $80,046. The contract goes to Captive Air / Hood Fryer, the lowest of three bidders. Douglas Equipment bid $99,347.98, and a third vendor bid approximately $106,000. The existing hood is believed to be original to the building and had stopped functioning properly, pushing smoke back into the kitchen. It also received a code warning during inspections. The replacement includes an extensive electrical upgrade. The $80,046 will be paid from the food service account, which has a balance exceeding $800,000. The purchase does not affect the education or operations fund.Source: BCS School Board Meeting, June 16, 2026
