BCS Approves $10,755 Sidewalk for Daycare Evacuation Route
From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on May 19, 2026
The board approved up to $10,755 for a concrete sidewalk at the primary school to provide a safe evacuation route from the planned employee daycare room.
The daycare will occupy a former art room in the second-grade wing with an exterior door. Currently, evacuating from that room would require running along a sidewalk all the way back to the parking lot. The new project includes a 10-by-5-foot concrete pad outside the door plus 152 feet of sidewalk to a safe evacuation point.
BCS has received one quote so far and is seeking three total. The board authorized the superintendent to proceed if a lower quote comes in. The work will be done over summer. The vote was 4-0.
