USDA Declares Blackford County a Disaster Area Over 2025 Drought

From USDA federal disaster designation, announced June 2026

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared Blackford County a disaster area due to drought conditions in 2025. The designation covers 13 Indiana counties, including neighboring Adams, Jay, Delaware, Wells, and Randolph counties.

The federal disaster designation unlocks emergency loan programs and potentially other USDA disaster assistance for agricultural producers in Blackford County. Farmers and other agricultural operations affected by last year's drought may now be eligible to apply for federal aid.

Given Blackford County's rural character and agricultural base, the designation could have meaningful financial implications for local producers and the broader county economy.
