Smithsonian Exhibit on Democracy Coming to Upland Historic Society This Fall
The Upland Historical Society has been selected to host a traveling Smithsonian exhibition on American democracy this August and September.
"Voices and Votes: Democracy in America" will be on display at the Upland Community Building from August 22 through October 4. The exhibit was developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and explores 250 years of American democracy, including voting, civic participation, public service, protest, and petitioning government. It features artifacts, photographs, multimedia presentations, and interactive displays.
"This is an incredible opportunity not only for Upland, but for communities throughout our region," said Andrew Preston, President of the Upland Historical Society. "Visitors will experience a Smithsonian-quality exhibition without traveling to a major city. We're proud to bring this national exhibit to Grant County and invite everyone to be part of the experience."
The exhibit asks visitors to consider questions about who participates in democracy, how civic engagement has changed over time, and what responsibilities come with citizenship.
Admission is free. The exhibit will be open to the public at the following times:
Monday through Friday: 4:00–8:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Noon–5:00 p.m.
Schools can reserve weekday visits between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The Upland Historical Society plans to host additional programs, guest speakers, and family activities during the six-week run of the exhibit.
