Shamrock Lakes Board Member Announces Resignation, Raising Quorum Concerns
From the Town of Shamrock Lakes Town Board meeting on June 18, 2026
A member of the Shamrock Lakes three-person town board announced his verbal resignation during the June 18 meeting, citing financial reasons and plans to sell his home and relocate to Hawaii.
The board member said he expects to list his house by the end of June or early July and plans to submit a written resignation letter in August. In the meantime, he committed to continuing to attend meetings by phone as long as board member Kelly Earl can be present in person. He also pledged to finish the town's ongoing codification and ordinance review before departing, with a target to present the completed package at the July meeting.
Board President Mike Nichols responded supportively, telling him, "You got to take care of you first."
The departure creates a serious governance challenge. The board is already working to fill an existing vacancy — Paul Bailey expressed interest months ago but has not submitted the required paperwork, a status confirmed again at this meeting. If Bailey does not complete his application before the second vacancy takes effect, the board could be reduced to just two members: Nichols and Earl. A three-member body requires a majority to act, meaning any disagreement between the two remaining members could halt town business.
