Montpelier Water Loss Drops Below 25%, Ending Three-Year Violation

From the Montpelier Board of Works & Safety meeting on July 15, 2026

Montpelier's water system is no longer in violation of state standards after a new water loss audit found the city is "well under the 25% mark." The city had been over 25% water loss — the threshold set by the IDEM — for a three-year period.

Water Superintendent Chase Perry said he "didn't feel too confident going into it" given the previous audit results, but the numbers came back positive. Perry credited upcoming new meter installations with helping maintain the improvement going forward.
