The city is moving forward with repainting a deteriorating mural wall on a two-story building at Main and Huntington Streets. The murals, originally painted by the city in the 1980s, are peeling and in poor condition. A bid of $4,500 was accepted to scrape, mortar-fill, prime, and paint the wall a solid color. The mayor obtained permission from the building owner. Since the project is under $5,000, the mayor authorized it without a formal bid process.

The city is also improving a corner park at Main and Green Streets.

In separate news, Montpelier received the Tree City USA national award and will celebrate Arbor Day on April 24 at 5 PM by planting a centennial American elm tree at Main and Windsor. The historical society recommended the planting in honor of America's 250th anniversary.
