117 South Main Street Renovation Nearing Completion in Montpelier — Gas Line Installation Pending
From the Montpelier Redevelopment Commission meeting on May 11, 2026
Renovation of Montpelier's city-owned building at 117 South Main Street is nearing completion, with a furnace, bathrooms, lighting, and electrical work finished and new glass installed on the storefront. The building has been completely cleaned out, and the mayor said it "has come a long way."
The remaining work is blocked by CenterPoint Energy, which needs to run a gas line through the back of the building. CenterPoint quoted a 60-day wait, pushing completion into June 2026. Once the gas line is in, the city can finish rear concrete grading to address water running downhill from the alley into the basement.
The project has cost approximately $40,000, funded primarily by a $30,000 contribution from an economic development group received last year. The mayor noted costs came in lower than expected, and no additional grant was needed.
