Hartford City Restructures Pool Staffing, Schedules Public Works Interviews
From the Hartford City Board of Works/Public Works and Safety meeting on April 20, 2026
Hartford City's Parks Board proposed splitting the pool manager role into two positions for the 2026 summer season, while the Department of Public Works announced eight applicants for an open position.
Tyler Hunt of the Parks Board presented a salary ordinance amendment that would convert the pool manager from a seasonal salary of $8,999 to an hourly rate of $17.50 per hour, reducing that cost by roughly $599. A new front desk and gate manager position would be created at $10.50 per hour, costing approximately $5,040 for the 12-week season. The net budget impact is approximately zero.
The change addresses a staffing gap: with 25 to 30 children at the pool on a typical day, one manager could not handle both pool operations and the front desk. Parks Superintendent Dustin will provide more direct oversight this season. No vote was taken — the salary ordinance amendment must return for formal approval at a future meeting.
Separately, the Department of Public Works reported eight applicants for an open position, with applications closing April 25. An executive session for interviews is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 4:15 PM, followed by a special meeting at 5:00 PM.
The board also announced that the spring cleanup day originally set for April 25 has been postponed to a date in May still to be determined, and a shred day for city residents will be held June 6 from 9 AM to noon.
