From the Hartford City Property Standards Board meeting on July 8, 2026

The owner of 317 East Chestnut Street appeared before the Property Standards Board citing significant financial hardship — medical bills, upcoming surgery, and debt — and requested more time to bring the property into compliance rather than face teardown.

The owner reported some progress: plumbing has been re-done with PEX piping. Work still needed includes replacing ceilings and repairing the roof, particularly the rear section.

The board voted 2-0 to grant 90 days, with the teardown order remaining in place. The owner must show further progress by the October 14 hearing or the city will move forward with demolition proceedings.
