1102 N. Monroe Street Teardown Delayed 90 Days as Hartford City Owner Seeks Buyer

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Hartford City Property Standards Board meeting on July 8, 2026

John Fletcher received a 90-day reprieve on the teardown order for his property at 1102 North Monroe Street. The board voted 2-0 to hold off on court action until October 14.

Fletcher reported progress: he has physically disconnected water and electric from the building and ordered gas disconnection, though board member Dudelston noted the gas company Vectren "moves at the speed of a racing glacier." Fletcher has the property listed for sale and had a showing the day of the meeting.

City Attorney Tyler Rothstein recommended against formal tabling, instead advising no court action for 90 days. This preserves the existing teardown authorization — if the property is not sold by October 14, Rothstein will proceed with a court filing. Any new buyer would inherit the teardown order and would need to appear before the board.
