Blackford County High School Building Project on Schedule — Steel Going Up, Masonry Started

From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on April 21, 2026

Construction on the Blackford County Schools high school building project is on schedule, with steel now going up and masonry already four to five feet high on the back wall.

Kyle Jones presented the update to the board. As of April 20, underground plumbing and electrical work have started, with backstage electrical already run. Only the back area and stage curve wall foundation work remains. A new drainage swale was cut in and performed well, diverting water from the bus barn during a recent heavy rain.

Precast risers are scheduled for mid-May, with glass installation beginning in early June. The structure phase continues through the end of July, followed by interior build-out. A few weather delay days occurred but did not affect the overall timeline.

The project — described as the district's largest in 30 years — is tracking toward its April-May 2027 completion target. Board members were invited for a hard-hat walk-through; hard hats and high-visibility vests are now required on site.
